McLaren could target other racing series but are still committed to F1
Zak Brown has admitted that McLaren are targeting other racing opportunities following their partnership with Indy Car outfit Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports but insists that they are still fully committed to Formula 1
McLaren have helped Fernando Alonso compete in the Indy500 twice but this year he failed to qualify for the proper event and retired in 2017. They recently confirmed their partnership with Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports as they look to establish themselves as a serious contender in the Indy Car series.
However, McLaren have been having a good season in Formula 1 and Brown insisted they are still fully committed to the pinnacle of motorsport.
"F1 will always be the pinnacle of motorsport and the pinnacle for McLaren Racing," Brown said in a Q and A on the McLaren website.
"That being said, racing is in our DNA and we have a long history of competing in other forms of motorsport.
"We’ve got a great GT programme with McLaren Automotive, we’re now in IndyCar, and we see sports car racing as a possibility in the future.
"We’ll enter other forms of racing when we think it fits with our brand, complements our F1 team, and will result in success both commercially and on the track."
