Horner: "Hubert's death reminds us how hard motorsport can be"
Motorsport's safety record has significantly improved over recent years, but every now and then we get a reminder just how dangerous the sport can be. In Saturday's Formula 2 race, Anthoine Hubert tragically lost his life. Christian Horner expresses his sympathy for all involved.
“The tragic death of Anthoine yesterday in Spa reminds us how hard the motor sport, the sport that we all love so much, can sometimes be. In his first season in Formula 2, Anthoine showed that he was a future star after having won races in France and Monaco," Horner said in a Red Bull statement.
“On behalf of Red Bull Racing, our thoughts are with the family and friends of Anthoine, Renault and the BWT Arden team, which I hold dear. Our thoughts are also with Juan Manuel Correa at the moment." The American was taken to the hospital for surgery after the serious accident. There he is currently in stable condition at Intensive Care.
