Both Honda teams "seem to be competitive" at the Japanese Grand Prix
Honda are hoping for a strong race at their home Grand Prix. Aston Martin Red Bull and Toro Rosso are both desperate for a good result and to impress in front of their engine suppliers fans. Saturday's sessions have been cancelled and Honda are upset that their fans miss some action but will hope to impress them on Sunday.
“We are very pleased that we are driving here on our home circuit!" Toyoharu Tanabe said. "Due to the threat of the typhoon, there will not be driven on Saturday, so we had to adjust our program.
"The programs for qualifying and the race were both completed in FP2. It remains a shame for the Japanese fans who were so looking forward to this weekend, just like for us because of being the home race. However, safety must be paramount!"
Honda are hopeful for a good result and are pleased with how Friday's testing went.
“Looking at today's sessions, it looks encouraging. Both teams seem to be competitive! Naoki Yamamoto drove his first meters with an F1 car and did well. His feedback was very useful for engineers. Speaking from within myself, it was nice to work with a Japanese driver and talk Japanese!”
Max Verstappen is Honda's best chance for a race win and they will hope that all their other cars perform well so that the Japanese fans have something to cheer about.
