Tost: Gasly and Kvyat went to Red Bull "too early"
Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost says that both Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly made the move to Aston Martin Red Bull Racing too early, and hopes they both stay at Toro Rosso, to be renamed Alpha Tauri, for 2020. The Italian team are having a solid season, sitting sixth in the constructors' standings, above the likes of Racing Point and Alfa Romeo, with all three of their drivers this season, Kvyat, Gasly and Alex Albon before the summer break, scoring regular points.
Kvyat has been a huge success story for Toro Rosso, returning from the cold after a frustrating 2017 season following his drop from Red Bull Racing earlier the previous year.
The Russian has scored 33 of the team's 59 points, including an unlikely podium finish in Germany, whilst Gasly has performed admirably since his return to the team in Belgium.
Tost believes that both drivers perhaps moved to the senior team too early, and he told French publication Auto Hebdo: "Maybe they went to Red Bull a little too early. I often say that my ideal is to work with drivers over a three year period.
“It was not an easy situation for either of them. We’ll see what Red Bull decides for next year. Both of them are very fast and we are very satisfied with their work.
“Personally, I hope that Daniil and Pierre will continue with us in 2020. The choice should be announced after Mexico."
