"Daniil Kvyat must look for a place outside of Red Bull Racing after 2020"
Former driver Nikolai Martensko believes that Daniil Kvyat should leave Toro Rosso as there is a likelihood that he will be asked to leave the team at the end of 2020 anyway. The Red Bull talent pool is notoriously ruthless and having already been dropped from Red Bull Racing, Kvyat might want to look elsewhere for a drive in 2021.
“I'm a big fan of Daniil, but if you look at it objectively, Gasly is simply stronger and more stable than Daniil," Martensko said at Sportbox. "Daniil seemed great in the first half of the season, but from the moment Gasly sat down next to him, that form disappeared. No idea why, but this always happens when Daniil feels that the pressure is on him.”
Kvyat hasn't performed badly but Martensko believes that Gasly has been better.
“A tenth place might be a good result in a race, but if your teammate manages to squeeze the maximum out, then it's not really convincing. Yes, we support Daniil, but he is currently subordinate to his teammate. At the end of next year, he has to look for a place outside the Red Bull Racing program. With a team where there is no such pressure and where he can be the driver he is. He is sure, but he has problems working on it."
With some young talent like Yuri Vips waiting in the wings for a F1 seat Kvyat's time may be short and he might want to look at different teams if he is to stay in the sport.
