Wolff can laugh about it: "Even with the reverse grid, we're still on pole!"
It's been a while since Lewis Hamilton has been on pole position, but he managed to get the result in Abu Dhabi. The Mercedes world champion put his car in P1 in what was the final chance to do so in 2019. Team boss Toto Wolff is pleased for his driver to finally get pole back. Meanwhile, his other driver Valtteri Bottas will be starting from the back after an engine penalty.
“I think this means a lot to Lewis. This is a job that suits us and him: a top result. I think we simply didn't have a good enough package compared to the competition, that's why he hasn't been on pole for so long. I am happy with our result. It will be exciting to see what Valtteri can do from P20. If we suddenly get a reverse grid, we are still on pole," laughs the Austrian at Sky Sports.
Mercedes already has both titles in 2019, just as it is certain of Bottas on P2. The Finn can no longer lose his place to the competition behind him, but will still make every effort to get into the winter break with the best possible result.
