Sergio Perez highlights what went wrong for Racing Point in 2019
Sergio Perez has reflected on his season with Racing Point and has identified what went wrong and some areas to improve on before the 2020 season starts. It was Racing Points first season since taking over from Force India and overall, they will be happy with how things have gone.
“I think qualifying hasn’t been as strong but race-pace has been very strong as usual,” the Mexican driver told MotorsportWeek.com when reflecting on the season.
“I think it’s some fundamental thing with the car, it’s been very difficult on new tyres. It’s been so bad you cannot improve.
“And it has been so much circuit-related this year, some we were strong and others we were really bad.
“That midfield group was so tight that two tenths in one sector would put you off.”
Looking ahead to next season, Perez has highlighted where he and his team need to improve.
“We just [need] to fundamentally improve the pace to be at least on par with the top four teams in that midfield group,” he explained.
“If we are in a position to compete from the first race then it can look very different.”
Racing Point will look to improve on 2019 next season and really challenge the other midfield teams for 'best of the rest.'
