Saudi Arabia - Another Formula 1 race on the calendar?
Formula 1 is going through a time of change and one of the easiest changes to see is the number of races of the calendar. The 2020 season will have 22 races, with F1 racing in the Netherlands and Vietnam. Former Renault boss Flavio Briatore believes that more races could be added and believes the sport should go to Saudi Arabia.
"It is a country that has had an incredible evolution in the last two years," Briatore said to Rai radio.
"It is opening up in an extraordinary way and there are now great opportunities for investment. As far as I know, they are already talking with F1."
Saudi Arabia is really trying to become a major stage in the world of sport. They have hosted a number of Sky Sports Boxing events with the latest Anthony Joshua fight being held in the Diriyah Arena.
It would not be a surprise if the country held a Formula 1 race but discussions will have to be held about the length of the season and whether a race there would replace another one instead of adding to the increasingly big number of races.
