Herbert expects Leclerc to overtake Vettel"Charles’s is getting better and better"
Charles Leclerc may have beaten Sebastian Vettel in the Drivers' Championship in 2019 and Johnny Herbert believes it is a matter of time as to when the youngster overtakes the German as Ferrari's number one.
Leclerc was one of the standout drivers in 2019, winning two races including a famous first win for a Ferrari at Monza in ten years as well as victory in Belgium. Meanwhile his teammate Vettel was only able to win one race, the Singapore Grand Prix.
The pair also clashed on several occasions including an incident which took them both out of the race in Brazil.
Johnny Herbert believes Leclerc's improvements will soon see him overtake as Ferrari number one.
"You can see that Charles has that ability to be able to react to the situation, and the situation is going to Ferrari because Ferrari is a big deal because of what it stands for," Herbert said at the Autosport International event.
“The pressure is going to be higher than anywhere else and I think the way that he has gone this season and been the reliable driver that has been able to deliver some good consistent races.
“Sebastian doesn’t help himself like in Brazil so there’s going to be that slight swing, the thing is Sebastian is at his peak at the moment, but Charles’s is getting better and better and pretty soon he’s going to overtake him and be that shift in momentum”
