Formula 1 drivers and their favourite football clubs

As the Formula 1 season starts, the football season in Europe is starting to reach the climax. In the coming weeks, fans of both sports will have difficult choices to make on Saturday and Sunday afternoons: to watch the football, or Formula 1? Of course, the drivers are unable to watch their favourite football club every week of the season but which teams do they support?

The opinion of some drivers is fairly clear. For example, Max Verstappen is a major fan of PSV and the Dutchman has already entered a FIFA match with former Ajax football players Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong. The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver lost to de Jong but promised he would win a race in a reverse fixture.

In the paddock, however, there are more drivers who are fans of football clubs. Sometimes they try to catch a match of their favourite club between races. Daniel Ricciardo likes to keep an eye on Manchester United while Lewis Hamilton is a big fan of Arsenal. Sebastian Vettel keeps an eye on a club close to his home: Eintracht Frankfurt.

In the Netflix series Drive to Survive, we discovered that Carlos Sainz and his family are bigs fans of Real Madrid. Charles Leclerc supports his local club AS Monaco. Also, Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly choose a club from their own country, respectively Club America and Paris Saint-Germain as their favourite clubs.
