McLaren won't copy the DAS system from Mercedes
McLaren may have lofty ambitions but Andreas Seidl has ruled out trying to copy Mercedes in the use of their DAS system admitting that he prefers just to respect it.
Mercedes' new steering wheel has been causing quite the stir during the first week of pre-season testing in Barcelona. Their innovation has already been banned under the 2021 regulations and the grid have been giving mixed opinions on the matter.
Andreas Seidl is the latest to weigh in and he admitted that McLaren have other areas they need to prioritise.
"We have other areas where we need to focus. We can make more progress in those areas than with the new DAS system from Mercedes," Seidl said as quoted by Motorsport-Total.
"If I see such an invention from the competition, I just respect it.
"We still miss time in many areas compared to a team such as Mercedes."
Seidl also commented on the standard Mercedes have set over the last six seasons, adding: "The results of the past six years speak for themselves. It is impressive what they do weekend after weekend, year after year with the drivers they have.
"It is something we can all view and respect. They are the favorites. I hope we can beat them someday."
