Lewis Hamilton is about to sign a new contract with the Mercedes team. That's what Toto Wolff made clear during videoconferencing with various media. However, according to the team boss of the German race team, there are still some things to go through, but problems are not expected.
According to Wolff, the expectation is that 'pretty soon after the start of the season' the signatures will be given. During the lockdown because of the coronavirus Wolff and Hamilton did not see each other, but there was a contract. "There is no agreement yet, but we have built a relationship of trust", says the 48-year old Austrian.
"We have been together for so many years now and there hasn't once been a situation in which we have had to dig up an agreement to see what's in it. It's easy for us to work together", Wolff explains. The beginning of July is marked in the agenda as the time to talk. "When we can race again we'll look at the duration of the contract, the rights and the figures."
Mercedes talks about loyalty and trust
At Mercedes, they are in any case confident that the partnership will be extended. "We've been working together for eight years, so there's no need to reinvent contracts. Our basis is solid. When a partnership is based on trust, you know the other party won't let you down. Formula 1 is a difficult business, but loyalty and trust are important values we live by every day", concludes Wolff at Sky Sports.
