Lewis Hamilton has achieved his 89th pole position of his career on the Red Bull Ring and it is one to be framed. At the end of Q3 he was 1.2 seconds faster than Max Verstappen, his closest opponent.

"These were probably the worst weather conditions you can drive these cars in. It was a great challenge. I'm thankful that we were able to qualify, because of course we lost the morning session as well".

Pole Hamilton a team effort

Although Hamilton seemed to be the best with the circumstances, it wasn't an easy afternoon for him either. However, he claims to have benefited a lot from the help of his team, who made the work in the car as easy as possible for him.

"Visibility was really minimal. It was important to find a hole and drive the right laps at the right time. The team did a great job of getting me in the right position and providing me with information. I actually felt at home in the rain today and I'm grateful for that".
