The 2020 F1 season is without a doubt the most bizarre season in the history of Formula 1. It has nothing to do with the action on the track, which is fairly predictable, but of course everything to do with the corona crisis. Also since the last announcement last Friday, the FIA again needs an emergency measure.

Formula 1 announced that it will not travel to North or South America this season. This means that the championship will be held on a maximum of two continents and according to the regulations you may not call it a world championship.

FIA and Liberty Media join forces

The FIA and Formula 1 are of course very keen that this should happen, and so the motor sport federation, at the request of Auto Motor und Sport, has declared that the champion of 2020 can still be called a fully-fledged world champion. This is because in this case their hand is overplayed by unusual circumstances.

Ross Brawn of Liberty Media, also stated earlier that the eight races initially planned for the summer were already sufficient to give the season the status of world championship.
