Silverstone: "We offered to make the track available for a period of months"

The next two weeks we can get ready for two consecutive F1 races on the same circuit. It's one of the things that makes this season special. In order to keep that second race interesting, the teams will be driving with a different tyre compound.
Even if that second race will be more of the same, it's still better than all the races on the same track. According to Stuart Pringle, Silverstone's circuit director, something was just as sadly considered. "We said, we give support where we can". At one point we made the circuit available for months," he said to Autosport.com.
Two races on one circuit nice solution
"It then seemed that nothing could take place somewhere else, so the answer was 'let the Italian teams, the Swiss and the men of Pirelli stay at Silverstone for a few months, then drive there one race and broadcast it on television if that's what you need".
However, in consultation with Formula 1 they soon came to the conclusion that this would be a bit boring and because things were going in the right direction in Austria a proposal was made to organize two races at Silverstone. With the two on the Red Bull Ring you can already reach half of the eight Grands Prix needed to validate the world championship.
