Eddie Jordan sees no future for Vettel at Racing Point
- GPblog.com
What Sebastian Vettel is going to do next year is still a mystery, but the rumors link him to Racing Point. If that does continue, it is likely that Sergio Perez will be sacrificed, given that Lance Stroll is the owner's son. With Vettel Racing Point can tie a big name to itself, but if it's up to Eddie Jordan they shouldn't do it.
I wouldn't hire him
In the F1 Nation podcast Jordan says: "Sebastian will be missed in Formula 1. He is a four-time world champion, but who knows, he may return to the days in which he achieved a lot with Adrian [Newey] and Christian [Horner]. In any case, he has had a few horrible years at Ferrari."
"Can he rekindle a kind of sparkle and a fire and the enthusiasm and the charisma that he had? It’s going to be difficult at his age. Would I employ him? Probably not, because I think there’s far, far too many young kids coming through."
Leclerc crushed him
Jordan bases this on what Charles Leclerc showed in his second year in Formula 1 and his first year at Ferrari. "One year ago, very few people would have given much credibility to the fact that Charles Leclerc would have completely destroyed him in many respects in his first year, but yet he did." That's not all, because Vettel isn't mentally strong enough to fight either.
Jordan: "Are you telling me, in a similar car that [Vettel] could fight toe-to-toe with Lewis Hamilton? At the moment, psychologically, he can’t even do that with Charles Leclerc. Can he do it with Lewis? I don’t think so, and that is the way that I would look at it if I was the boss of the team."
What's more, an arrival of Vettel at Racing Point will have an effect on the dynamics of the team. "For sure four-time World Champion Vettel is a huge prize for any team but would you destroy the team that has Sergio plus income plus money and a good rhythm inside the team?", said Eddie Jordan who has a clear opinion about it.
