International press: "Red Bull happily declined the offer"
The international press praises Lewis Hamilton. Although most experts had expected a victory from the Brit, they had not expected it this way. Pirelli takes some critisim from France. The French are not happy with the tyre supplier.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (Italy): F1 Silverstone, Hamilton wins on 3 wheels! Verstappen 2nd, Leclerc 3rd with Ferrari
If Lewis Hamilton can win on three wheels, you can close the shop ... the British GP finale is incredible and unforgettable. The left front tyre that first broke for Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and then also for Hamilton. Bad luck for the Finnish driver, who was second and only had to do two laps. He dropped out of the points. Hamilton lost his left front tyre one lap before the end, but Max Verstappen didn't take advantage of it, as he was getting the point for the fastest lap - apparently a move that cost him victory. Hamilton managed his car best and managed to reach the finish line on three wheels. He was followed by Verstappen and Charles Leclerc's Ferrari, who reached an unexpected podium.
Auto, Motor und Sport (Germany): Hamilton wins on three wheels
Most experts expected Lewis Hamilton to win. In the end, the seventh home victory of the world champion hung on a thread. Half a lap before the finish line, the left front tyre of the Mercedes suddenly dissolved into separate parts. The number 44 towed on three wheels for the third victory of the season. Actually, Bottas could have won, but his Mercedes got the same bad luck two laps before the end. The victory was practically reserved for Max Verstappen, but Red Bull, fortunately, declined the offer. The Dutchman had made a pit stop and went for the fastest race lap.
AS (Spain): Hamilton wins on three wheels and a dramatic finale for Sainz
Hamilton was angry with the only car that overtook him during the British GP: "The Safety Car has to go faster, it's too slow for us." The two black cars had been on their own planet for almost the entire race until they came back to reality, suddenly, when they saw both the left front tyre burst two laps before the end. The positions were always defined upfront and it's fair to say that the show was stolen by Carlos Sainz earlier, although he didn't get anything in return.
The Guardian (UK): Lewis Hamilton basks in 'most dramatic race end' after winning with puncture
Lewis Hamilton hailed his remarkable three-wheeled victory at the British Grand Prix as the most dramatic climax of his career. The world champion, who had led from the start, had to drag his Mercedes across the line after a tyre gave out on the final lap. The win, his seventh at Silverstone, was preceded by a well‑organised anti-racism gesture on the grid that Hamilton welcomed despite the extant disunity with only some of the drivers opting to take a knee alongside Formula One’s only black driver.
Le Figaro (France): Hamilton's deserved success, Pirelli disaster
49 laps of boredom and three rounds of madness! A show of strength almost went wrong for Hamilton. With impressive control throughout the race - after pressure from his teammate Valtteri Bottas. The British Grand Prix was boring for a long time. Just saved by a few overtakes from the Esteban Ocon-Pierre Gasly in tandem. The latter in particular gave himself a nice gift by playing the great Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel behind the wheel of his modest AlphaTauri. If Carlos Sainz had not had a puncture in the last lap, the doubt would have been shared between the Mercedes and the Pirelli tires. The French newspaper is not pleased with the tyre supplier.
