OFFICIAL: Formula 1 returns to Istanbul for Grand Prix of Turkey
- GPblog.com
It's official! The Turkish Grand Prix will return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2020. The circuit in Istanbul was a favourite circuit of many Formula 1 fans between 2005 and 2011 and will return this year.
Turkey back in Formula 1
The Formula 1 calendar got its final shape during the season. While we already had six races over the last months, the calendar wasn't yet completed. However, Formula 1 has now filled the gap between Imola and the previously predicted races in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi with a race in Turkey.
The Turkish Grand Prix made its debut in 2005 and was immediately well received. Kimi Raikkonen won the very first race, but it was mainly Felipe Massa who enjoyed the Istanbul Park Circuit. He won three times in a row between 2006 and 2008 and is therefore a record holder. After his victories Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel won the last three races.
