Pirelli gives drivers maximum freedom with the tyres at Monza

After the Belgian Grand Prix it is time for the second race in the third triple header of 2020 this weekend. We will go to the 'temple of speed', Monza in Italy. Here Pirelli will give the teams the next three tyres: C2 (Hard), C3 (Medium) and C4 (Soft). The reason for the choice lies in the diversity of strategies it provides, the tyre supplier states in the preview at Motorsport.com.
One or two stops
"For this race, strategies are possible at one or two stops. But unlike last year, the drivers have a fixed allocation of tyres that have a direct effect on strategies through the influence of the variety of sets," Mario Isola said. According to Pirelli, this selection would be best suited to face the characteristics of Monza.
In other words: "In any case, this allocation is intended to give the drivers maximum freedom in the choice of the tyres they want to take into the race." In doing so, Pirelli is aiming for a race with a great deal of freedom in terms of strategy. However, there are always incalculable factors, such as a higher speed than last year and the temperature also counts, as does the weather in general.
Different compositions
For the third race after Monza at Mugello, Pirelli will come up with another combination of tyres, but specific details are not yet known. Isola says: "For the first time in Formula 1 history there is a back-to-back in Italy, with several nominations for the two races at Monza and Mugello."
Mugello will be interesting in this, because "the teams already have a lot of references and data available for Monza about the tyre compositions." This is in contrast to Mugello, which debuts on the Formula 1 calendar.
