Will the name Williams really be retained? Site Dorilton suggests otherwise
- GPblog.com
Earlier on Thursday it was announced that the Williams family will step down as drivers of the Williams Formula 1 team after the Grand Prix at Monza. Earlier this year the legendary team was already taken over by Dorilton Capital and the influence they have will become visible in the near future. Williams indicated that they will leave the team with name retention as it is a piece of Formula 1 history.
Will Williams disappear sooner or later?
Formula 1 without 'Williams' is a somewhat crazy idea, regardless of whether or not the family is directly involved in the team. For the time being the name will remain, but one word in the description of Williams in the portfolio of the investment company raises questions.
It reads: "Williams Grand Prix Engineering Limited, currently racing as Williams Racing, is a British Formula One motor racing team and constructor." In this, of course, 'currently' is the key word, because it suggests that it may change in the future. If it were to come to that, it would be an eternal sin.
On the other hand, it can also be an unfortunate choice of phrase and in that case it is a 'storm in a glass of water' and the name will remain as it is. Take it with a grain of salt until more clarity appears.
