Newey all the way back at Red Bull: ''He's enjoying what he's doing again''

Adrian Newey has not always been involved in the design of Red Bull Racing's car in recent seasons, but according to Christian Horner he is now back on track. With the Honda engine, Newey has much more confidence in it.
Newey back at Red Bull Racing
In recent seasons, Red Bull's car may not always have been what we were used to from Adrian Newey. The top designer, who has already won the world title with several teams with his design, has been much more involved in Aston Martin's Valkyrie project, but that is now well behind him.
''He is now completely focused on Formula 1 again. For the past three to four years he has been more involved with Valkyrie, because he didn't enjoy Formula 1 either. He noticed that we weren't competitive with the engine at that time (Renault). But now he sees that we are in a better position and he is enjoying what he is doing again. It keeps him young and he's still working hard to keep the young guys on their toes," Horner told Racefans.net.
Can Red Bull do without Newey?
In the meantime, however, Red Bull haven't been idle. A team can't be dependent on one man and so a team has already formed under Newey. Head of engineering for the car is Paul Monaghan, head of aerodynamics is Dan Fallows, head of performance engineering is Ben Waterhouse and in 2018 Pierre Wache was officially appointed as the technical director.
''It's never about one person, as everyone knows. Adrian is very good at his role as mentor for the whole team in the technical field, but we have now strengthened the team across the board. In recent years, we have strengthened the team, with people like Pierre Wache. As a team, we want to continue to win, although we will be stronger if Newey focuses fully on F1," concluded Horner.
