Gasly stayed on podium for a while: "It won't happen that often"
At the Italian Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly took his very first Formula 1 victory. For the Frenchman, it was a special moment for several reasons.
"A little over fifteen years of hard work has gone by to achieve this. For the last eighteen months, I have been going through a crazy rollercoaster of emotions, with all that has happened. High peaks and deep valleys. It is unbelievable. I am very happy. Since I've been back at AlphaTauri we've focused on our own performance and improved every day, race after race. They gave me my first podium in F1 last year, which was unbelievable and unpredictable. And today we win the Italian Grand Prix, it's great. I'm struggling to understand what really happened here," Gasly said to Ziggo Sport.
Podium without hordes of fans
"We're like a big family in Formula 1. Everyone here knows the lifestyle and all the sacrifices you have to make to get here. I think there is a lot of respect between all of us. Of course, that's very nice to see. To be honest, I couldn't believe it when I crossed the finish line. I just wish that the fans and the Tifosi could be there at the podium. I saw how Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel were welcomed here. Monza is such a special circuit. I really wanted to enjoy the podium, it won't happen that often," the concluded.
