Verstappen is happy for Gasly and AlphaTauri: "They really deserve this!"
For Max Verstappen, the Italian Grand Prix did not go as hoped. The Dutchman will therefore immediately focus on next weekend, the race at Mugello.
The Monza circuit is normally not a great track for Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen. The best result on the power circuit for the Dutchman is fifth place. However, that result would have been a lot better than the disappointing race today, where he quickly fell back into midfield and had engine trouble halfway through.
Verstappen comes away with zero points, and it's the same story for Alexander Albon. The British Thai was picked up damage early on, which didn't help his speed. As a result, Albon finished on P15, far from the points.
"Now we just need to forget about this race and focus on next week and the new circuit, which we all want to visit," said Verstappen.
Happiness for former team and teammate
Where it was a weekend to be quickly forgotten for Red Bull Racing, it was a weekend to be remembered forever for Pierre Gasly and AlphaTauri, Red Bull's sister team. Verstappen is pleased for his former teammate and the team where he started his F1 career. "It wasn't our weekend, but I'm very happy for Pierre and AlphaTauri.
"They were quick all weekend and to win here in Italy is very emotional and a great result for them. They are a great group of people and I hope they will really enjoy this tonight because they really deserve it," concluded the Dutchman.
