Carlos Sainz had to settle for second place in the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday. Normally a great result for McLaren, but with the victory at hand, Sainz was disappointed.

After a lousy start by Valtteri Bottas, it was Carlos Sainz who managed to take second place behind Lewis Hamilton. So the Spaniard drove there before all the chaos and even had to work his way to the front after the red flag to get back to P2. So there was nothing wrong with the pace, but Andreas Seidl says Sainz was disappointed after the race.

Sainz is just short

''That was the case for a very short period of time, yes. However, we can take a lot of positive points with us, because we scored a lot of important points and we clearly had a competitive car. After Mercedes we were clearly the second force and that was great to see and a confirmation for all our hard work'', says Seidl to Motorsport.com.

McLaren's team boss says Sainz was faster than Pierre Gasly. ''However, there is a difference between driving a lap on a free track or in the dirty air. I think we were clearly faster than Pierre, but overtaking is another story. It was only in the last lap that Carlos got into his DRS zone, but we just have to congratulate Pierre, because they did a great job'', Seidl concludes.
