"That's the difference between Max and the guys around him"
Max Verstappen can count on rave reviews from former Formula 1 drivers Johnny Herbert and Karun Chandhok. Sky Sports analysts are deeply impressed by the performance of the Red Bull Racing driver in 2020. According to those men, Verstappen is an exceptional talent.
"He has matured so much over the last couple of seasons, especially this season. We were hoping that Red Bull car was more going to be more competitive than it is, we were probably dreaming, but he still drives the wheels off that thing and he's always there," Herbert is full of praise for Verstappen in the commentary.
Verstappen scores maximum points
Chandhok agrees with his colleague. "He's leading that team. He's scoring many more points than the other person in that car. They know he is delivering the maximum that car can do. It's the Alain Prost policy, if you have a car on that day that can finish second, you have to finish second. If it is only good enough to finish fourth, you finish fourth. But you make sure you get to the end and get the maximum points, I feel like that's what Max has been doing," Chandhok adds.
Herbert remembers a pivatol moment during a Grand Prix at Silverstone this year. Red Bull indicated that he had to slow down, but Max answered resolutely: "I have to go back to Silverstone when the team told him to slow down, and he said 'I'm not slowing down, this is my chance'. That's the difference between Max and the guys around him, maybe Valtteri Bottas or a second driver. He's not going to like me for saying that," the 56-year-old Briton concludes.
