Villeneuve criticises F1 driver: "What he was doing was just stupid"

Carlos Sainz did not make the best impression at the Russian Grand Prix by coming into contact with the wall very early in the race. The Spaniard initially missed the corner and had to return to the track via an escape route. Sainz attacked it too fast and clipped a wall, leaving Jacques Villeneuve confused.
Sainz will race in 2021 alongside Charles Leclerc for Ferrari. "The Sainz accident in Sochi? I just don't understand what he thought he was doing. What he was doing was just stupid. There's a real wall at that point of the escape route," the 1997 world champion is quoted by F1GrandPrix.it.
According to the Canadian, it is particularly striking that Sainz did not intervene in time. "He didn't even lift his foot and ended up against the wall. Personally, I think this is a very serious miscalculation."
Sainz' DNF caused the team to miss out on a lot of World Championship points in Russia. McLaren saw competitors Renault and Racing Point come awfully close as a result.
