Wolff: 'It's completely up to the new owners what they want to do with Russell'

Rumours about George Russell's future at Williams are getting louder and louder. Sergio Perez seems to be in with a good chance of stealing the young Brit's seat. Team boss of Mercedes Toto Wolff also announces that it is now up to Williams, despite Russell being a member of the Mercedes academy.
Today the interim team boss of Williams Simon Roberts did not want to confirm whether Russell will still be a teammate of Nicholas Latifi in 2021. It has been rumoured for some time that Perez might be signed instead, even though Russell is contracted for 2021.
Williams' decision
Mercedes, too, cannot do much more for Russell. "We all know about George’s capabilities. He is a star of the future who remains unbeaten by his team mates in Formula 1," says Wolff according to RaceFans.net, who refers to the undefeated status in the mutual qualifying game.
"Sometimes he is able to show highlights in a car that is not competitive at the moment. And I think he’s a great team asset. But there’s obviously a financial reality that I cannot judge at all and it’s absolutely the judgement of the new owners and Simon to decide what they want to do going forward," concludes Wolff.
