Jacques Villeneuve isn't one to mince is words and he has slammed Alex Albon, describing him as "the worst second driver ever at Red Bull" following his tough run of form.
Worst second driver ever
It seems a long time since Albon was on for a win at the opening race of the season but the Thai driver has struggled to keep up with the front runners and pressure on him ramps up each week.
Speaking on Sky Sports Italy, Villeneuve said: "He does not deserve his place at Red Bull. Albon is the worst second driver ever at Red Bull."
"However, he is protected by the team management and always gets the confidence, but he is certainly not of the level that a Red Bull driver should have. He’s getting worse, even though they keep trying to help him."
The Canadian explained why he believes he is still racing at Red Bull. "He is only there through his passport, because he [Thai owner] owns half of the company and that is why he is protected", by which Villeneuve refers to the fact that Red Bull is only half Mateschitz, the other half belongs to the Thai Yoovidhya family.
Villeneuve didn't comment on who could replace Albon but did have some words on Pierre Gasly. "He is still angry that he has to stay with AlphaTauri and therefore drives very aggressively. You can see that in his driving style, but that’s fine."
