Perez an edge at Red Bull? 'One of the few markets where that is so'
- GPblog.com
Red Bull Racing has still not announced who will be the second driver next to Max Verstappen for 2021. Alexander Albon already seems to be able to pack his bags, while Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg both hope to make the transition.
Albon already had a chance at Red Bull in mid-2019, but in a year and a half he did not achieve what Red Bull had hoped for. The Austrian team is therefore now looking for a new driver and Hulkenberg and Perez are currently the biggest candidates. According to Allard Kalff Perez has a special advantage.
Hulkenberg or Perez?
''Mexico is one of the few markets where Monster Energy is as strong as Red Bull. If you go into business with Perez, it can work out well,'' says Kalff at RTL GP Slipstream. ''Those are all very nice theories and most of the time the earning model comes first, but I expected Red Bull to make Max Verstappen world champion'', says Kees van de Grint.
''If I were Red Bull I would only look at what makes my team stronger. You don't need a driver who is better than Verstappen, but someone who can support him well'', says the former tyre expert of Bridgestone. According to Kalff, one driver fits that profile best. ''Then I think Hulkenberg has the best papers.''
