According to Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko, Max Verstappen could have taken pole position at Istanbul Park. But it didn't work out, because Verstappen was stuck behind Kimi Raikkonen for a long time.

Raikkonen the culprit

"He didn't get past Raikkonen, so the tyres didn't reach the right temperature," explains Marko at Sky Deutschland. "It's very difficult to get the tyres at the right temperature here.

"We think the time behind Raikkonen, that lap and a half, cost us the chance to pole position," concludes Marko. Verstappen had to settle for second place behind Lance Stroll.
