Probably the most talked about topic in Formula 1 last weekend was the state of the track in Turkey. However, according to the sports director of Liberty Media, Ross Brawn, that should not matter at all.

On Friday there were a lot of drivers complaining about the lack of grip and the rain on Saturday and Sunday only made that worse. Brawn explained in his column for Formula1.com that this was what made drivers stand out.

Some teams and drivers were able to deal with it

"I think drivers sometimes have to remember that it's a race that goes over the line first, so while the grip wasn't high, it was the same for everyone. Some drivers went for it well and were able to handle it in the end, others found it distracting," Brawn said.

"It wasn't a bad thing to have a challenging surface. It showed a driver's talent to the limit. I don't think the grip level is a measure of the level of competition you have there."
