Honda boss happy with three cars in Q3!
The Honda powered cars were perhaps expected to have a difficult time of it at the Sakhir Grand Prix, with power and straight line speed the most important factor. However, this wasn't the case as three of their cars made it through to the final part of qualifying.
Max Verstappen made it to P3 in Q3, whilst the Alpha Tauri pair of Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly also found their way into the top ten shoot-out. Honda boss Toyoharu Tanabe was very pleased with their day.
He said in a Honda press release: "Lap times in today’s qualifying for the Sakhir Grand Prix were, as expected, extremely close. For Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen just missed out on pole by 0.05 seconds, which was a shame, but all the same third place on the grid is an excellent result which can allow us to hope for a strong race.
"Both the Scuderia AlphaTauri cars made it through to Q3 and Daniil drove well to secure sixth place. Pierre, who has been strong all weekend, was possibly hampered slightly by damage he picked up on the car.
"Alex just missed the cut to Q3 in this very tight group, but from 12th on the grid he has a free choice of tyres, which could give him a strategic advantage in the race."
