AlphaTauri: "That is not heavily controlled by tokens"

Jody Egginton thinks that the aerodynamic development of the midfield teams will make the difference in 2021. This is in spite of the token system introduced for next season to save costs.
The ranking will change little
The midfield was close in 2020 with three teams fighting for third place in the standings, while Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly were also often found at the front of the midfield. For the 2021 season, teams have been given tokens so that they do not overspend, but aerodynamic developments during the season are not included.
For this reason, technical director of AlphaTauri Egginton believes that the token system will not determine the ranking. "At the end of the day, aerodynamics are still not heavily controlled by tokens", he said in a conversation with Autosport.com.
Aerodynamics is the key to success
"You could elect to do a new nose, but a nose is not going to make or break your aerodynamic concept when nearly every other aspect apart from the rearward part of the floor of the regulations is the same", Egginton continued.
The Brit still thinks that the aerodynamic package will make the difference and that the tokens will not be a differentiating factor. "It's aero that's still king. Everyone will use their tokens for something, but I don't think that's the key differentiator to decide the order."
