Max Verstappen will have to do without his number one mechanic Lee Stevenson in 2021. The foreman on the Verstappen side of the garage will be given a different role within the team.
Verstappen loses number one mechanic
Lee Stevenson is one of the faces you might see with Verstappen post-race. Verstappen's number one mechanic has been working for Red Bull Racing for years, but was given the role as number one mechanic for the first time in 2015. At the time for Daniil Kvyat, but since 2016 for Max Verstappen.
The two have worked very well together for years, so it is a great loss for Verstappen that Stevenson will be leaving. He will remain active within the team, but someone else will have to take over his role. Stevenson himself is disappointed that he was unable to finish the job with the Dutchman.
The best driver on the grid
''10 wins, 3 poles, 42 podiums. Never did I dream of going on such an incredible journey with the best driver on the grid. It’s a shame we didn’t get the championship ticked off but HE definitely will! My journey as the No1 on the car has come to an end as i take on a new role in the team, an opportunity I couldn’t miss," Stevenson announced on Instagram.
What role Stevenson will take at Red Bull Racing is not yet known, nor who will take over from Stevenson with Verstappen's team. Stevenson was best known for his emotion in the garage and was also at the helm of the phenomenal repairs to Verstappen's car prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix, when Verstappen had all but written his car off before the start of the race.
