Bent Viscaal has just announced that he will be making his Formula 2 debut. He shared the news in a press release and on Twitter that he is joining Trident Racing as the newest Formula 2 driver.
The 21-year-old Viscaal has been promoted to a new class, after winning Formula 3 last year. Viscaal will join the Italian team Trident Racing. He already drove his first test laps in a Formula 2 car and will officially start in the new class in four weeks. Viscaal knew he was ready for the next step and testing at Trident Racing felt very good.
"After winning the 2020 races, one of which was taken away from me due to a time penalty, I knew for myself that I was ready for the next step. As a driver I strive to develop continuously. I am grateful to Trident for this opportunity and cannot wait for the season to start in Bahrain!"
Formula 3 a logical next step for Viscaal
Viscaal goes on to say that he feels the move to the higher class is a logical one. He had previously raced in Formula 3 and was ready to move up to the next level. The promotion that Trident Racing offered him came at just the right time. The Dutch driver is very grateful to the team.
"For me this is the perfect team to take the step towards Formula 2. I hope we can continue the good line of mid-December during the upcoming race weekend in Bahrain."
On March 8, Viscaal will make his first appearance for the Italian stable in Formula 2. Next up will be the pre-season test, during which he will drive for three days at the Bahrain International Cicuit. After that, he will start preparing for the opening weekend of the season.
