It is still unclear if the Canadian Grand Prix can go ahead. There are still a lot of problems to be solved but now time is running out. On Sunday it was even revealed that Formula 1 have asked for an amount of 6 million dollars if there are no spectators.

Formula One leaders would like to ask for compensation of about six million dollars if the Grand Prix cannot welcome fans. The government of Canada is the party that would have to cough up this amount. This amount is asked to cover the costs of the local promoter to organize the weekend, costs that are mostly covered by the income generated by the spectators.

25 million dollars for F1 weekend

The Canadian government is aware of this and Formula One expects to receive a response within days. Canada already pays almost 19 million dollar a year to be able to host the pinnacle of motorsport. Now another six million dollars will be added to that. That is what La Presse has explained.

Liberty Media has Turkey ready as a replacement if it can not work out a deal with Canada. Last year the Formula 1 also traveled to Istanbul Park. Lewis Hamilton won the Grand Prix on a wet track and secured his seventh Formula 1 World Championship that weekend.
