Mercedes looks set to start 2021 trailing direct rivals Red Bull Racing. The rule changes mean the German team lost a lot of downforce, but with a new base plate, the Mercedes should be more stable.
Motorsport-Total.com has taken a close look at the rear of the Mercedes W12. According to the German medium, it was easy to see that Lewis Hamilton was driving more and more stable over the course of the weekend in Imola, allowing him to get closer to Red Bull.
Testing on Friday
On Friday, Mercedes reportedly drove with two different variants of the rear wing that have two different downforce levels. The design of the struts was also changed for the weekend in Italy.
Lastly, the design of the diffuser supports has been changed. This would also help to solve the stability issues.
