After AlphaTauri seemed to have a strong car in Bahrain and Imola, its performance seems to have weakened in more recent races. Pierre Gasly knows that the team needs to "optimize everything" to compete with the teams in the midfield.

Battle in the midfield

So far in every Grand Prix, points have been scored by AlphaTauri, two by rookie Yuki Tsunoda and eight by Gasly. But the team has yet to see a race in which both drivers score. Gasly knows the gaps in the midfield are small.

"We know we really have to optimise everything to be in the mid-field fight," the Grand Prix winner revealed at the preview from his team. Gasly drew strength from his last stint in Spain, where he rose from fifteenth to tenth position.

Gasly happy to return from Monaco

Gasly is happy to return to Monaco, where the corona pandemic meant there was no racing in 2020. "The street circuit presents several unique challenges, starting with a lack of grip, so I hope we will get to understand how our car behaves as quickly as possible, working out what we need to do to be quick and to continue our run of points finishes," he revealed.

Monaco is known for being difficult to overtake, something that is familiar to Gasly. "You give it everything on Saturday afternoon because we know that Qualifying is 95% of the race result," he concludes.
