Charles Leclerc had a disastrous weekend in Monaco. The Monegasque seemed to be heading for pole in his home Grand Prix, but got stuck in the wall and wouldn't even start on Sunday. Nevertheless he was present at the podium ceremony, and his team boss was very complimentary about that.

Leclerc had the fastest time in Q3, but in his second run he took a bit too much risk and ended up in the wall. Other drivers could not set a faster time due to the red flag, so Leclerc kept his pole. The damage was so big though that he couldn't start. A painful moment for Charles, but he didn't let it be known.

Leclerc doesn't give up

Indeed, after the race he simply stood with his mechanics below the podium, to congratulate his teammate on his podium. ''It is very positive that Charles was standing there. He showed with that that he wanted to celebrate the podium with Carlos and with the team. That is very positive. He shows the team spirit that exists with us at the moment. We all believe in our project and we are all convinced that we will become stronger and stronger in the future,'' Mattia Binotto told Motorsport.com.

Charles' retirement was annoying for Ferrari, but with Carlos Sainz's second place, Binotto also took a lot of positives from the weekend. ''There are many positive things we can take away. The car performed strongly from Thursday, in all sessions, and that's very positive. Especially considering where we were in the past. It proves that the car and the team are developing in the right direction,'' concludes the Ferrari team boss.
