Norris thankful it went McLaren's way: 'It was pretty intense'
- Toby McLuskie
Lando Norris struggled to repeat his success from the Monaco Grand Prix a fortnight ago but still managed to find himself in a solid points-scoring position with a fifth-place finish. The McLaren driver was in a battle across the grid throughout the whole of the race and moved up two places after the restart to secure his top-five finish.
However, speaking to Sky Sports after the race, he admitted that there was luck on his and the team's side following the restart. "It was pretty intense.
"I think one of the nice things is that you have so much grip. Low fuel, new rubber. It's like a race in qualifying. It went our way and I gained two positions. Thankful for that.
"My actual launch was okay. Once you commit to a position at turn 1 things happen and people can lock up. Then it backed up and cars on the outside and inside could gain position. After the penalty and to end up P5 is good for us."
He also explained how Charles Leclerc was very aggressive in his defence but is still happy with P5 at Baku.
