Kimi Raikkonen, now 41 years old, has no plans to leave Formula 1, although it is not yet sure whether he will extend his contract with Alfa Romeo or not. Meanwhile, his son Robin has also acquired a taste for karting.
Raikkonen on karting talent of son
Asked when we'll see his son follow in the footsteps of drivers like Max Verstappen and Mick Schumacher in Formula 1, Raikkonen says he's not looking that far ahead. "At the moment he really likes karting and loves everything that has an engine."
The Alfa Romeo driver believes it is most important that his children enjoy what they do. "Sometimes he does laps all afternoon, sometimes less because he wants to do something else. The same goes for my daughter. I will support them in everything they enjoy, but I'm not going to force anything", he says in conversation with Sport1.
Whether his son has talent, then, doesn't interest Raikkonen much. "I haven't even looked at that yet, he's only six years old. The most important thing is that he likes what he does, which can be football or any other sport. But until he is about twelve years old I don't think you have to think about talent," the Finn said.
