The rumours have been going around for some time, but by the end of August, Valtteri Bottas should know where his future in Formula 1 lies. Favourite for his seat is Williams driver George Russell.

Bottas ended the first half of the season with a crash on the first lap at the Hungarian Grand Prix, hitting several drivers. The Finn has now been with the Mercedes team for five years and he stresses he has no regrets about this time.

"I have to say, I have no regrets. I have always tried everything I can, and the same thing this year. Obviously, this year has not been the best start of the season with many races not getting points with DNFs or whatever, but no regrets at all and I have always tried to give it all I have", he told ESPN.

"I have always tried to work as hard as I can. Even though every year so far I have been beaten by Lewis, I have always tried to find more ways in myself to come back stronger."

Bottas has learned a lot

And wherever he will drive in 2022, he is confident the team will benefit from Bottas' strongest version to date. "I've definitely learned so much about myself in the recent years. As a driver and as a human being and being able to understand yourself and what works for you is important."

"I feel like nowadays whatever is thrown at me will not shake me and I feel like I am ready for anything and any kind of challenge in the future. Definitely, I have learned a lot. I will try everything I can for myself and for the team for the future, whatever happens", Bottas said.
