Wolff declares: 'We were really pushing the boundaries'

Mercedes does not have an easy time of it this season in the world championship. Whereas the German team won the world title with relative ease in 2020, a year later they have competition from Red Bull Racing.
It is not new for Toto Wolff though, as the team owner still remembers the battle with Ferrari. The Italian team managed two seasons to battle it out with Mercedes. "This season is very intense, but also 2018 and particularly ’19 – when we were fighting Ferrari – it was very difficult at times," Wolff told on the official website of Formula 1. "We were really pushing the boundaries and that also means pushing each other almost to breaking point in order to win the championship."
Wolff stresses that Mercedes are struggling to keep up with Red Bull's developments this season. "I think we are the hunter, we approach this with fun – there is nothing to lose for us because we have a deficit towards our competitors, so we have just to win and continue the journey with great anticipation, enjoy every single race weekend and try to do the best possible job, and hopefully that’s enough to really compete for the championship until the very end of the season."
Battle between Hamilton and Verstappen continues
Lewis Hamilton is provisionally eight points ahead of Max Verstappen in the world championship. After the summer break, the Grands Prix of Belgium and the Netherlands are scheduled to take place.
