In 2021 Ferrari have been using a young driver duo: Charles Leclerc (23) and Carlos Sainz (26). According to CEO John Elkann this is not a problem and the young duo have brought 'new energy'.
Youngest line-up in years
After a dismal 2020, Ferrari said goodbye to Sebastian Vettel and moved on to prioritising Leclerc. Vettel was replaced by Sainz, who had driven himself into the limelight after two strong years at McLaren. Elkann is very happy with his new driver pairing.
"Ferrari is more focused than ever on the importance of its sporting dimension in motorsport," he revealed to the Italian TuttoSport. "In Formula 1, our young and exciting driver duo has brought new energy to the whole team."
Battle with McLaren
While the team finished only sixth among Constructors in 2020, the team from Maranello is doing much better in 2021. Ferrari have found itself in a fierce battle with McLaren for the third spot. Both teams are on 163 points at the halfway point of the season.
