Hamilton vs Verstappen brings F1 back to life: 'Being talked about'
- GPblog.com
Marc Surer is enjoying the 2021 Formula 1 season. Like many, he is on the edge of his seat for the duel between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen but is also looking forward to the new rules for 2021.
Verstappen versus Hamilton
It has taken a while, but in 2021 we will finally have a battle for the Formula 1 title again. Whereas Hamilton has had the world title up for grabs every year since the departure of Nico Rosberg, this year he really has to fight for it again. Red Bull Racing has built a car that also gives Verstappen a chance at the title.
''With Verstappen against Hamilton, we finally have a great championship duel again, like Prost against Senna or Schumacher against Hill. Two drivers who dominate and attack each other. It is great for Formula 1. Incidents like Monza are unnecessary, but it is positive for the sport. There is something going on in Formula 1 and people are talking about the sport again,'' the former F1 driver said to Speedweek.com.
New rules for F1
In that respect, it might be a shame that there will be completely new rules in 2022. New regulations usually result in a change in the ranking, and that could lead to one dominant team. Surer isn't too worried about that though.
''I hope the new rules will make F1 more exciting, and that we will abandon DRS. Because of this tool overtaking has become too easy. Everyone always says how difficult it is to overtake, but in Abu Dhabi in 2019 we saw many battles on track when DRS didn't work for 20 laps. DRS makes drivers lazy,'' the Swiss concludes.
