Toto Wolff was visibly dissatisfied with the result of qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton missed out on pole position and Valtteri Bottas was relegated to ninth on the grid after his grid penalty.
"We gave it away over the weekend," the Mercedes team boss explained to ORF. "We had a very strong car on Friday and now we are not on the right track. Then you get a result like this." Asked if they had gone in the wrong direction, he succinctly replied, "Yes."
Mercedes took the wrong path
He continued: "We have to look at it again, but in any case, the performance wasn't there since yesterday afternoon. It's all a matter of set-up and seeing how we can get the tyres in the right window. We had them in the first sector or in the last, but never in both at the same time."
