Marko confident in racepace: 'Two or three tenths faster'
- GPblog.com
It didn't look good for Red Bull Racing on Friday morning. Mercedes were more than a second faster than Max Verstappen, so they were already considering damage limitation. The fact that the team was able to fight back was praised by Helmut Marko.
A proud Marko tells the Austrian television (ORF) That after the first practice session they have continuously improved the car and corrected their mistakes step by step. He does not forget to also praise his driver, who drove an "incredible" lap under difficult conditions.
Red Bull need not fear long runs
The fact that Perez was able to finish in third place was 'very helpful' to Marko. Not only for Verstappen's chances of winning, but with Valtteri Bottas ' ninth place on the grid it also helps the constructors' championship.
But perhaps the most positive aspect of Marko's story is his confidence in a good outcome for Verstappen during the race. "We were really fast on the medium tyre, two or three tenths faster than Mercedes. That could determine the outcome of the race."
