Bottas bitter about Mexico GP: 'That made my race very difficult'
- GPblog.com
Valtteri Bottas has had a disappointing weekend. The Finnish driver started first on the starting grid, but already in the first corner, he spun. He then also had the misfortune of a pit stop, meaning he goes home without any points.
The driver of Mercedes was visibly disappointed in front of the camera of Ziggo Sport. "Max [Verstappen] did a great job at the first corner," Bottas said about the Dutch driver. "After that I hoped that there would be more opportunities to pass, but then I got a blow from behind. That made my race very difficult."
Mercedes did decide to apply another strategy at the end of the race. As Verstappen had the fastest race lap in his pocket, the German team decided to let Bottas take it away. The Finn finished outside the points, so he doesn't get the point either. Bottas is happy to still be of service to his team. "I hope so. One point is better than nothing," he stated.
Perez in battle with Bottas
For Bottas, the final score means that he will have to work hard in the last four races to maintain his third place in the world championship. His lead over rival Sergio Perez is 20 points.
