Alexander Albon was the celebrated man on the podium after the Bahrain Grand Prix , but that was at the expense of Racing Point. A few laps before the end Sergio Perez had an engine problem.
Albon has been under pressure at Red Bull Racing all season as a teammate of Max Verstappen and so the podium in Bahrain was a welcome surprise for the Thai. The Thai will get a boost of confidence from that, although it was due to a lot of luck. Perez was on his way to third place.

Albon took his chance

"There was a little bit of good fortune today for Alex, when he inherited his second podium after Sergio Perez retired, but he put himself in a position to take advantage when the opportunity presented itself," said Ross Brawn in his column for Formula1.com.
"There’s no doubt this has been a challenging year for him, but in Bahrain, he showed strong pace throughout the race and showed character in the way he recovered well from his big crash in practice on Friday.
"This podium will do wonders for his confidence. He now needs to build on this result and get some momentum."
"Racing Point are going to be feeling they have underperformed this year, after suffering heartbreak in Bahrain, first with Lance retiring after a collision and then Sergio losing the podium in the final laps.
"They have had a very good car, a bit of a controversial car as we know from the fuss at the beginning of the year. It’s the second or third fastest car of the field and they haven’t been able to take the maximum from it."

Finally, someone else agrees with what I have been saying all year (but many people on this blog disagrees with my statement) that the RP has the second quickest car in the field. Definitely faster than McLaren, Renault and likely even Red Bull, just that their drivers are not capable of squeezing more performance from them to get more consistent results. Perez sometimes gets it right and ends up with a P2 in Turkey and a couple of P4 and everyone raves how good the result is, but that car is capable of P3 every single week, with a truely talented driver behind the wheel. The very reason how Hulk was able to qualify P3 in Silverstome. It’s a very capable car! Afterall, a slightly modified variant of it won the championship in 2019.

...showed character....Max doesn't think so. The thing is, it's nice he hot a podium, the way he did... at this point in his fight for his seat, he should not be happy or be satisfied he earned this way. There was no battle he was far behind Sergio... he should be saying what Max said ...that would show fire n determination needed to win... shows the difference between champs, who are never satisfied with 99% n the drivers happy just to race....
