Fernando Alonso has announced he is against the proposed new points system in F1. An idea to expand the number of drivers who score points after a Grand Prix race was revealed last weekend. Currently, only the top ten drivers score points, but it's been proposed to increase this to 15.
The two-time World Champion suggested it'll seem like good news to the smaller teams, but it won't work out in favour of the sport.
"The leading drivers always get points and so it can be a great moment if you get two points," he told Germany's sport.de.
"I remember when Jules [Bianchi] was ninth in Monaco and scored points, and it was like a miracle and a great moment for the sport."
Alonso suggests with more points places, special moments like this won't exist because even the small teams will score more often.
Between 2003 and 2009, the top eight were given points, and this was increased to the top 10 at the turn of the decade. Prior to 2003, just the top six scored points. What do you think? Are you siding with the Spaniard, or do you actually think it's a great idea? Let us know in the comments!
